Founded in 1958, BusinessEurope comprises 41 national business federations (FEB, Medef, etc.) and represents some 20 million businesses in 35 European countries. Its main task is to defend the interests of businesses within the scope of the European institutions, whilst maintaining and strengthening their competitiveness.
In 1998 Medef replaced the CNPF as the main French employers' organisation. Its aim is to represent the interests of French employers with the French state, and trade union organisations. 750,000 businesses are members of Medef.
AFEP (Association française des entreprises privées)
Afep aims to defend the position of major French companies within EU institutions, international organisations and the French public authorities, mainly during the drafting of horizontal regulations (relating to the economy, tax, corporate law, competition, intellectual property and consumer affairs, social regulations, labour law, the environment, accounting standards and financial information, etc.). Afep comprises 90 of the biggest groups that operate in France.
